Compassionate Care for our Communities

Dear Friends of Penn Highlands Healthcare,

Compassion is at the very heart of patient care and sees no age or gender. At Penn Highlands Healthcare, we recognize, that our community members have basic human needs. Needs that go beyond a discharge from the hospital or their stay in a long term care facility.

Picture for a moment, a little pair of hands, soft and smooth. They are those of an infant; innocent and eager for the journey of life. Next, picture the hands of a proud hardworking father, calloused and cracked, longing for a break but proud to be the family provider. Lastly, picture yet, another set of hands also soft but wrinkled and unsteady. These hands have many years of experience, aged by hard work and life’s tribulations.

Now, imagine in the middle of the night, a helicopter lifts off, to fly that infant from the arms of their mother to seek emergent and specialized care hours away. What if this was your child? The hardworking father walks through the doors of the emergency department, suffering from a steep fall on the job. His family is hours away, and he has nothing to wear home but a paper gown as his clothing was not salvageable. What if that man was your father? Lastly, think about an elderly patient being cared for but living alone. She needs a warm blanket replaced and does not have the means to do so. What if that woman was your grandmother?

How do we help?

Penn Highlands Healthcare continues to serve the healthcare needs of its communities, despite the ability to pay for care. In 2022, $18.5 million dollars in Charity Care was given throughout the healthcare system. This donation is necessary to ensure a healthy community, no matter the cost. Now, Penn Highlands Healthcare needs your help, to take care one step further.

Please consider participating in our 2023 Annual Giving Campaign, for the purchase of compassionate care items, to support our community’s needs.
