Family Medicine Residency Program

Family Medicine Residency and GME Program at Penn Highlands Healthcare.

Penn Highlands Healthcare is committed to the future of medicine.

Approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) as a NEW GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM for 2017 and has received Initial Accreditation from The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) as of July 1, 2017.

Penn Highlands Healthcare Family Medicine Residency Program offers inpatient and outpatient training to prepare residents for a career in primary care.

Currently the only post-graduate program, Penn Highlands Healthcare is concentrating its efforts and resources on educating osteopathic family physicians prepared to meet the demands of rural health care.

Working one-on-one with attending physicians, residents will have the opportunity to train in multiple settings. Offering most specialities in our four hospitals and numerous outpatient facilities, residents will assume increased patient care responsibilities as their training advances. A designated inpatient teaching service is established to afford residents an organized and thoughtful approach to clinical education. Didactic lectures and workshops complement clinical training. Educational support from LECOMT, the  Lake Erie Consortium for Osteopathic Medical Training, provides access to educational modules, library resources and board preparation tools.

The residents’ continuity of care clinics are located in a busy rural health center and on-site at Penn Highlands DuBois, West Campus. Dedicated teaching faculty with years of practice experience will work with residents to advance their diagnostic, procedure and treatment skills.

With a competitive benefit package, comfortable and safe communities and the beauty of the Pennsylvania Wilds, there is not a better place to begin your medical career!
