Manish Ranjan, MD, is a neurosurgeon at Penn Highlands Neurosurgery in DuBois.

Dr. Ranjan specializes in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, epilepsy surgery and restorative neuroscience. He has nearly two decades of experience covering the spectrum of neurological disorders, including movement disorders, epilepsy, pain, and spasticity in diverse patient populations.

Dr. Ranjan graduated from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in Bangalore, India, where he also completed his residency in neurosurgery. He has completed fellowships in stereotactical and functional neurosurgery at West Virginia University in Morgantown, W. Va.; pediatric neurosurgery at Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz.; stereotactical and functional neurosurgery at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada; epilepsy neurosurgery at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Canada; and stereotactical and functional neurosurgery at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

Dr. Ranjan is the recipient of the Weston Brain Institute Advisor Fellow Award and the American Epilepsy Society Fellow Award. He has been recognized by the World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, International Association for the Study of Pain, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies and more.

In addition to his work with patients, Dr. Ranjan is a highly accomplished researcher, and his findings have been widely published in leading neurosurgery journals and academic presses. His research interests include deep brain stimulation as a novel treatment for refractory opioid use disorder, ExAblate blood-brain barrier disruption for the treatment of patients with probable Alzheimer’s disease, Amyloid PET and MRI in patients with Alzheimer’s disease, among others.

He is a frequent lecturer and presenter at conferences around the world, and he has served as an editorial board member of the Austin Journal of Neurosurgery and the Journal of Neurosciences in Rural Practice, review editor of Frontiers in Human Neuroscience and expert reviewer in the Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, Neurosurgical Review and more.
