Grant Schirmer, DO

Grant Schirmer, DO, is originally from the Clarion area although he has now permanently moved to the DuBois area. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at Gannon University and completed medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Schirmer decided to join the Penn Highlands Family Medicine Residency because the residency offers an excellent training curriculum and is close to home. He enjoys that he is able to spend time with so many knowledgeable attending physicians. He also enjoys the flexibility of electives to tailor the curriculum to his interests. He is very active within the graduate medical education program when it comes to recruiting candidates, teaching didactic lectures, and standing on committees as a resident representative. Dr. Schirmer has been co-lead in opening an Osteopathic Medicine Treatment (OMT) clinic at the Penn Highlands Family Medicine Residency Clinic where patients are offered non-invasive techniques for musculoskeletal somatic dysfunctions. He also was the only resident to present at the 2020 Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA) Virtual Clinical Assembly.

Dr. Schirmer enjoys music, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He enjoys the DuBois area because it provides plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Upon completion of residency, Dr. Schirmer plans to join Penn Highlands Healthcare as a hospitalist. He is looking forward to helping teach residents and students when he is in the attending role.
