New Orthopedic Surgeon Joins Penn Highlands Healthcare

Penn Highlands Healthcare is pleased to welcome Robert Metts, M.D., to its medical staff. Board certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Metts will began seeing patients on September 1 in the Medical Office Building on the Penn Highlands Elk campus.

“I am excited to work with the staff at Penn Highlands,” said Dr. Metts. “I know the community has needed additional orthopedic coverage, and I am so happy to be joining the clinicians in St. Marys.”

Dr. Metts graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in 1989. He performed an internship in general surgery at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA and went on to do a residency in orthopedic surgery there.

He worked for nearly a decade as a physician with the U.S. Navy, having served on the U.S.S. Saipan and at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and the Naval Hospital of Newport, RI. In 1998, Dr. Metts began working in Meadville, PA, where he developed the Crawford County Sports Medicine program. He worked at two hospitals in New Hampshire and one in North Carolina. Most recently Dr. Metts has worked with Susquehanna Health as an orthopedic surgeon in Wellsboro, PA.

He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
