Extensive Care Unit

Extensive Care Unit

Extensive Care Unit (ECU) at Penn Highlands Clearfield

The Extensive Care Unit, located on the fourth floor of Penn Highlands Clearfield, provides intermediate care that is more advanced than care required on a regular telemetry floor. In this unit, our expert medical staff closely monitors heart rate, blood pressure and breathing rate, in addition to blood-oxygen level and electrocardiograms.

Patients admitted to the unit include orthopedic and post-operative surgical patients, patients who need monitored intravenous medication administration, those requiring short-term, uncomplicated ventilator support and pediatric patients requiring continuous cardiorespiratory monitoring.

The rooms are spacious and private, and have bedside monitors capable of multiple monitoring modalities. There is also a separate family/guest waiting area designated for this unit.

Physicians and nurses in the Extensive Care Unit use the latest healthcare protocols to provide expert care and ensure recovery and promotion of health maintenance for patients. The medical staff works collaboratively with a full range of ancillary service departments including imaging, laboratory, cardiopulmonary, pharmacy, nutrition services, environmental services, case management and physical, occupational and speech therapies.
