Memory Care Support for Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia

There are few conditions or ailments harder to accept than the decline of cognitive functions. For anyone navigating the reality of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia—including the families of the patient—you should know that Pinecrest Manor has a special unit dedicated to memory care patients. In many cases, memory care patients are physically fit and able, but the onset of cognitive impairment puts them at risk of hurting themselves or others.

How does Pinecrest Manor treat memory care?

We’re proud to say that we have a dedicated memory care support unit called Reflections that features programs designed specifically to support these residents. The friendly and compassionate team at Reflections is trained to understand the nuances of Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive impairments. In addition to receiving access to high-quality medical care, residents are able to socialize with others in the facility’s large activity/dining room.

When is it time to consider memory care?

The decision to admit yourself or a loved one into a facility for memory care is never an easy one. But there comes a time when cognitive impairment becomes so severe that it should be given serious consideration. Here are some signs that it’s time to explore your options in memory care:

  • Forgetting important dates, names, or familiar places
  • Neglecting to complete everyday tasks like paying bills, bathing, or eating
  • A decline in overall health, including rapid weight loss
  • Failure to properly take prescribed medication
  • Lack of social life
  • Inexplicably wandering away from home
  • Frequently falling
  • Problems sleeping
  • Agitation or aggression
