Dr. Peter Patitsas’ Story

We take care of the community.

Peter Patitsas, MD, MBA, is an emergency medicine physician who provides highly specialized care to patients with serious or life-threatening injuries and illnesses in the Penn Highlands Huntingdon Emergency Department (ED). For Dr. Patitsas, that’s where he is meant to be providing care — to the people in the county where he was raised.

“I feel a personal obligation to give back to Huntingdon County,” said Dr. Patitsas. “I think it is wonderful that this county still has a community hospital and I am very appreciative of Penn Highlands Healthcare for ensuring that these smaller communities still have high-quality healthcare — they enable community hospitals to continue providing care.”

Dr. Patitsas enjoys meeting new patients as well as providing care to friends, relatives and former neighbors. With all patients, he says that he listens to them and truly hears what they are telling him.

“When a patient tells me they have pain, I give them the benefit of the doubt that the pain is real,” he said. “I never discount what they are telling me. I reassure them.”

Nick Margiasso, the head pro at the Penn State Tennis Center who lives in Huntingdon, saw Dr. Patitsas in the ED for severe back pain and was very pleased with the care the physician provided to him.

“When I was at the Penn Highlands Huntingdon Emergency Department, they found issues with my back and spine that other specialists never found,” said Nick.

“Nick was very thorough in advocating for his health,” said Dr. Patitsas. “He was a good story teller because he remembered the studies he had and when they were done which helped us piece together his complete story.”

Dr. Patitsas continued, “I like to spend a lot of time with my patients so that I help them achieve the best outcome.”

Dr. Patitsas credits the entire ED team for providing a high level of care to patients.

“We have a really good team in our ED. Penn Highlands Huntingdon has wonderful nurses and great techs — they are all like angels.”
