Ronald McKinney, Hollidaysburg, PA, Prostate Cancer Survivor

Ronald McKinney’s Story

They went above and beyond in providing my cancer care.

Ronald McKinney’s life is like the inflatable punching bag that sits on the floor -- when it meets with force, it pops right back up again. The force he met with was cancer – twice. After successfully recovering from colon cancer in 2022, Ronald faced a new challenge with prostate cancer some 18 months later..

“For the prostate cancer, I consulted with physicians at health systems in Pennsylvania and Ohio where I learned I was not a candidate for some of the advanced surgical therapies they performed due to scar tissue from the colon cancer,” explained the Hollidaysburg resident.

Ronald then talked with his father, a retired dermatologist from the Altoona area, who recommended he see Jack D. Schocker, MD, FACR, a radiation oncologist with Penn Highlands Radiation Oncology in State College, PA. Dr. Schocker has nearly five decades of experience and offers the latest radiation therapy treatments, including image-guided radiotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery and volumetric-modulated arc therapy.

“I really liked Dr. Schocker’s bedside manner; we really connected,” said Ronald who drove 35 minutes to Penn Highlands State College five days a week for two solid months for his radiation treatments with Dr. Schocker.

He continued, “The entire staff at Penn Highlands Radiation Oncology went above and beyond in providing my care but I have to say Dr. Schocker is unbelievable! I wouldn’t go to anyone else.”
