Welcome, Joel D. Himes, DO

Penn Highlands Healthcare welcomes board-certified sports medicine physician Joel D. Himes, DO, to its medical staff.

Himes joins the team at Penn Highlands Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, located at 88 Hospital Road in Brookville, 1008 S. 5th Avenue, Suite 102 in Clarion, and 145 Hospital Avenue in DuBois.

Himes is an experienced specialist, and he has served as assistant clinical professor of primary care/sports medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He has worked with many athletic teams, from the high-school and college level to the professional level. In addition, Himes has authored several textbook chapters for the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic conditions.

Common treatments and procedures include joint injuries, non-surgical fractures, overuse injuries, joint injections, ultrasound-guided diagnosis, treatments and injections, concussion treatment, nerve block for knee pain, minimally-invasive tendon procedures, biologic injections, and prolotherapy.

Prior to joining Penn Highlands, Himes practiced at Mercy Health Partners in Toledo, Ohio; Indiana Regional Medical Center for US Acute Care Solutions in Indiana, Penn.; MedExpress in Pittsburgh; and UPMC East for Emergency Resource Management, Inc., in Pittsburgh.

Himes graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Saint Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, and his fellowship in primary care/sports medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Himes is a member of the American College of Emergency Medicine, the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, the American Osteopathic Association and the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association.
