Welcome Louis Russo, MD

Penn Highlands DuBois welcomes Louis Russo, MD to its medical staff, according to John Sutika, hospital president.

Russo, board certified cardiothoracic surgeon, will offer treatment to patients at Penn Highlands Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, located at 145 Hospital Avenue, suite 300 in DuBois.

“We are proud to welcome Dr. Russo to our medical staff,” said Sutika. “His knowledge and vast experience will be a significant benefit to his patients.”

Russo comes to Penn Highlands from UPMC Altoona, where he served as the chief of cardiothoracic surgery. He has also served as the vice chairman of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and Surgery at UPMC Hamot in Erie, as a clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of Vermont School of Medicine in Burlington, Vt. and as a clinical assistant professor of cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pittsburgh.

Russo earned his bachelor’s degree at Pennsylvania State University in State College and his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where he also completed a residency in general surgery. He completed a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.


A native of Altoona, Russo currently resides in DuBois. In his free time, he enjoys photography, traveling and spending time with his family.
