Monongahela Valley Hospital and Local 8041 Reach New Contract

Monongahela Valley Hospital and United Steelworkers (USW) Local 8041 have a new three-year contract which begins July 1, 2021 and runs through June 30, 2024.

Local 8041 represents approximately 44% of the Hospital's employees including technical staff; nursing assistants; unit clerks; laundry; nutrition and food service; housekeeping; and maintenance personnel. Nurses at Monongahela Valley Hospital are not members of the union.

"We are pleased that we have a new contact," said Louis J. Panza Jr., president and CEO of Monongahela Valley Hospital. "Union leadership and members of Local 8041 are to be commended for once again demonstrating their commitment to our hospital and most importantly, our patients and this community by ensuring that they will continue to receive the highest quality of care."

Mr. Panza continued, "We deeply appreciate the extensive efforts of both negotiating teams, whose members worked diligently over the past few weeks to reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Monongahela Valley Hospital's greatest asset is its people - the dedicated, hard-working employees, physicians and volunteers who provide high-quality care to our patients and their families. It is an honor and privilege to work with this outstanding team to carry out our mission of caring for our community."

Christopher J. Kovski, JD, MHA, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, vice president of Human Resources and lead negotiator for the hospital, praised Local 8041's bargaining team for their efforts during the negotiations which ended when a tentative agreement was reached. Union leaders recommended approval of the contract to the membership during informational sessions.

"The bargaining team demonstrated a firm commitment to the hospital throughout the negotiations," said Mr. Kovski.

Richard McGinn, president of Local 8041, shared Mr. Kovski's sentiments. "Union leadership respected the hospital's professionalism throughout the talks and we are grateful that we could reach a mutually beneficial agreement."
