Penn Highlands Mon Valley Is a Site for Drug Take Back Day

Do your part to keep medications from getting into the wrong hands. Take your unused medications and over-the-counter drugs to Penn Highlands Mon Valley on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day — April 26, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in front of the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center.

The Carroll Township Police will join staff from the Penn Highlands Mon Valley Pharmacy to collect prescription and over-the-counter drugs, medications and ointments that are expired or no longer being used.

“We have been partnering with the Carroll Township Police Department for many years to make it as safe and convenient as possible for the community to dispose of unused drugs,” said Peggy Brown, PharmD., BCPS, Director of Pharmacy for Penn Highlands Mon Valley. “It is very easy. People simply pull around our circular driveway outside of the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center and remain in their cars. After they hand the drugs to one of the officers from their car windows, the drugs are deposited in boxes.”

Before disposing of the medications, all personal information should be removed or blacked out. While liquid products and creams in containers with secured lids are accepted, sharps and syringes are not accepted due to the potential exposure to blood-borne diseases.

National Prescription Drug Take Back day is a semi-annual event that is a convenient and safe way for residents to remove unused drugs from their homes.
