DuCoeur Breast Cancer Walk

Form your teams. Get your pink attire ready. Lace up your athletic shoes. Penn Highlands Mon Valley is sponsoring the 20th Annual Lois Orange Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Registration begins at 9:00 AM with the race starting at 10:00 AM. The event will be held at the Mon Valley HealthPlex at 800 Plaza Drive, in Rostraver Township, Pennsylvania.

At the HealthPlex, participants and guests can complete the Walk in the safety of a marked course free from motor vehicle traffic. In addition, the site provides ample space to accommodate the walkers and those attending for the festivities.

"Practically everyone knows at least one person who is currently battling or survived breast cancer,” said Natalie Furgiuele, MD, a breast surgeon with Penn Highlands Mon Valley. "While raising important funds, this Walk shows our community that we are united to fight this disease."

A $20 registration fee supports patients undergoing breast cancer treatment in the Mon Valley region. Proceeds from this year’s Walk will be used to provide Ensure Nutritional Supplements to Penn Highlands Mon Valley cancer patients. Ensure is an expensive, but necessary supplement that helps to keep their bodies strong during treatment.

The Walk promises to be fun for the whole family. Each registrant will receive pink items including a bandana, tribute ribbon and heart worry stone. Refreshments will be provided. Commemorative T-shirts and baseball caps each will be sold for $12. Plus, the ever-popular Chinese Auction is back along with a raffle for a beautiful jewelry item from Mar-Bill Diamonds & Jewelry.

In addition, during the event, a bench will be dedicated in memory of Lois Orange Ducoeur for patients, their families and caregivers to have a comfortable place to rest and wait while their loved one receives care.
