Prescription Drug Take Back Day at Penn Highlands Mon Valley

PHMV Drug Take Back

Penn Highlands Mon Valley is joining forces with the Carroll Township Police Department for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Prescription and over-the-counter drugs, medications and ointments that are no longer being used or expired will be collected on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM in front of the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center on the hospital’s Carroll Township campus.

“Clean out your medicine cabinets and closets to dispense of the medications you no longer take,” said Peggy Brown, PharmD., BCPS, Director of Pharmacy for Penn Highlands Mon Valley. “This event is a responsible way to dispose of these items safely by keeping them out of the wrong hands.”

Before disposing of the medications, all personal information should be removed or blacked out. Liquid products and creams in containers with secured lids are accepted; however, sharps and syringes are not accepted due to the potential exposure to blood-borne diseases.

Led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to prevent drug misuse, reduce environmental contamination and raise awareness about the risks of keeping unneeded medications in the home.
