Penn Highlands Elk Offers Exceptional Care in the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)

The Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) at Penn Highlands Elk is a state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary critical care service intended for patients whose medical conditions require close monitoring. These patients need a more intense level of care and enjoy a more individualized patient-to-nurse ratio.

Our nurses are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and our hospital-based physicians are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Other professionals from varied disciplines add support whenever needed in the areas of respiratory therapy, nutrition, pharmacy, rehabilitation and care coordination.

We are focused on making the IMCU a comfortable and healing environment. Families are encouraged to spend as much time as possible at the bedside of their loved one and, if possible, participate in their daily care. All of our rooms are private and provide ample space for family. Seating converts easily for resting or sleeping to provide comfortable accommodations when appropriate during expanded visiting hours.
