Clare's Story
Everyone was committed to helping me beat the disease.
Two years ago, Clare Fitzgerald never dreamed that she would go from someone who was incredibly healthy and served as a Centre County Ombudsman and food bank volunteer to someone with Stage IV colon cancer.
“It was a humbling experience. For once, I required lots of help; but I’m back to my normal routines now,” she explained.
“Following surgery, I wanted to have my chemotherapy treatments closer to home, and a trusted friend recommended Dr. James Lieb at Penn Highlands Oncology and Hematology right here in State College.”
“I received very thorough care from Dr. Lieb at Penn Highlands State College. He explained everything I would go through and what to expect. I liked that he referred to us as partners in care.”
During the eight months that Clare received chemotherapy treatments from Dr. Lieb and his staff at Penn Highlands State College, she said that her care was excellent.
“Everyone was absolutely terrific,” she said. “Dr. Lieb was forthright. I was very comfortable with his treatment plan because it felt like a true partnership. He explained everything I could expect and even how to alleviate side effects from the chemo through exercise and nutrition.”
She continued, “I recommend Dr. Lieb and Penn Highlands State College because they treated me as an individual and everyone seemed truly committed to helping me beat the disease.”
