Highlands Hospital Integrative Medicine Blog

Lately at Highlands Hospital, you may have heard the terms integrative medicine, complementary medicine, and mindfulness and you may be wondering what it’s all about. So, let me explain.

It’s a style of healthcare based on this principle: the human body functions as an integrated, interrelated, whole unit. The focus is on the whole person—physical, emotional, social and spiritual. And what is so empowering for an individual to realize is that there exists in the human body an innate capacity for self-regulation and healing. In other words, YOU are your own healer!!!!

With such power of course, comes great self-responsibility. YOU are responsible for YOU! The challenge now is learning how to nurture your inner healing ability. There is no quick easy fix! The human body doesn’t work that way. An Olympic athlete is not made overnight! It takes time persistence and commitment. The road to good health and healing is a road of self-discovery.
