Family Honors Aunt’s Legacy with Grateful Gift for Her Care

Paulette (Winkler) Wallace, a native of DuBois, Pennsylvania, was warm, caring and had a fanciful sense of style, according to her twin brother Paul. Most of all, she was dearly loved by her four nieces and nephews. Paulette passed away at Penn Highlands DuBois after a lengthy battle with cancer in 2020.

Dearly missed, Paulette’s nieces and nephews felt compelled to honor their aunt, and show appreciation for the care she received during her courageous battle.

“Our aunt had a very lively spirit and was very special to the four of us. We wanted to honor her memory in a way that would have been special to her. As a patient at Penn Highlands Hahne Cancer Center, and also a volunteer there, it felt right that we do something that enhances Hahne Cancer Center and symbolizes the comfort she offered to others during their treatment,” the nieces and nephews shared.

In a show of appreciation for her care, a donation was made by Paulette’s nieces and nephews, to upgrade the Medical Oncology Suite at Hahne Cancer Center in DuBois. Touched by the gift of his family, Paulette’s twin brother Paul and his wife, were moved to match the donation.

“My wife and I were inspired by what the family did, and we wanted to build upon the gift going forward,” said Paul Winkler.

“The staff of Penn Highlands Healthcare and the Hahne Cancer Center are truly touched and appreciative of the thoughtfulness and generosity of the Winkler family. It is evident in working and story sharing with Paul, just how special Paulette was to their family and so many others. The family was so happy with the care Paulette received, they expressed that through a generous and well thought out gift — a gift that will continue to impact many patients’ lives needing care, for years to come,” said Danyell Bundy, Director of Operations and Major Gifts, Penn Highlands Healthcare Fund Development.

The Winkler family have forthcoming plans, to continue their commitment to Penn Highlands Healthcare in Paulette’s memory.
