PHH Announces Regional Chief Medical Officer for Southwest Region

Penn Highlands Healthcare announced that it has named Sundeep Ekbote, MD, FAAEM, as the regional chief medical officer for the southwestern region.

Dr. Ekbote is a board-certified emergency medicine specialist and the director of emergency medicine at Penn Highlands Mon Valley. He joined Penn Highlands in 2017, where he recruited and led an emergency team seeing more than 30,000 patients each year.

Dr. Ekbote has three decades of experience, including 20 years in leadership positions. As regional chief medical officer, he leads the integration and development of the growing Penn Highlands Health System.

Prior to joining Penn Highlands, Dr. Ekbote was the medical director of Anywhere Care Virtual Urgent Care. He practiced for 15 years at Jefferson Hospital of Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, where he also served in leadership capacities.

Dr. Ekbote graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Mich. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
