Welcome New Physicians - October 2023

Penn Highlands Healthcare offers 827 physicians who provide a wide range of care and treatments at our eight hospitals and locations throughout 26 counties in Pennsylvania that include community medical buildings, outpatient facilities, surgery centers and physician practices. We are pleased to welcome the following physicians who recently joined our medical staff.

Diana T. Baca, MD
Connellsville, Greensburg

Board-certified gynecologist Diana T. Baca, MD, joins the team at Penn Highlands Gynecology, located at 700 Park Street, Suite 6, in Connellsville and 1275 South Main Street, Suite 205, in Greensburg.

Prior to joining Penn Highlands, Dr. Baca practiced at East Suburban OB/GYN Associates in Monroeville and Chatfield Women’s Care in Littleton, Colo.

Dr. Baca graduated from Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown, Ohio. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. She is a member of the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Jacob Cauvel, DO
Clearfield, DuBois, St. Marys, Tyrone

Emergency medicine physician Jacob Cauvel, DO, joins the teams in the emergency departments at Penn Highlands Clearfield, Penn Highlands DuBois, Penn Highlands Elk and Penn Highlands Tyrone.

Dr. Cauvel graduated from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, W.Va. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at UPMC Hamot in Erie, where he was named chief resident. He is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Brian Rose, MD
Connellsville, Mt. Pleasant, Uniontown

Emergency medicine physician Brian Rose, MD, joins the teams in the emergency departments at Penn Highlands Connellsville and Penn Highlands Mon Valley.

Prior to joining Penn Highlands, Dr. Rose practiced at Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital in White Hall, W. Va.; Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, W. Va.; Emergency Physicians of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh; USACS Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pittsburgh; and Queens Hospital Center in Jamaica, N.Y.

Dr. Rose graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, La. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Beth Israel Medical Center, in New York, N.Y.

Zachary Senders, MD
Belle Vernon, Connellsville

Board-certified surgeon Zachary Senders, MD, joins the teams at Penn Highlands Oncologic and General Surgery at 800 Plaza Drive in Belle Vernon and 401 East Murphy Avenue in Connellsville.

Dr. Senders is a board-certified surgeon offering highly specialized, multi-disciplinary surgical cancer care and expertise in general surgery. Dr. Senders has a decade of experience and is a fellowship-trained specialist, achieving the highest level of education in his field.

Dr. Senders graduated from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in general surgery at Case Western Reserve University/UH Cleveland Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed fellowships in Complex General Surgical Oncology and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery at University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Ky while also earning a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation Sciences at the University of Louisville School of Public Health.

He is a member of the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Society of Surgical Oncology and American College of Surgeons.

Shane Sergent, DO
Huntingdon, Tyrone

Shane Sergent, DO, has joined the medical staff at Penn Highlands Healthcare as the new Central Region Medical Director of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Sergent joins the teams in the emergency departments at Penn Highlands Huntingdon and Penn Highlands Tyrone.

Prior to joining Penn Highlands, Dr. Sergent practiced at Kingman Regional Medical Center in Kingman, Ariz.; Innova Emergency Medical Associates in Denver, Colo.; Boulder City Hospital in Boulder City, Nev.; Michigan State University College Institute of International Health in East Lansing, Mich.; Nason Medical Center in Rolling Spring; Miners Medical Center in Hastings; and Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Dr. Sergent graduated from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing, Mich. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians and Academy of Wilderness Medicine. He is also a member of the Wilderness Medical Society and International Federation for Emergency Medicine.

Kaylin Strauser-Curtis, DO
DuBois

Kaylin Strauser-Curtis, DO, has joined Penn Highlands Healthcare as a Sports Medicine Fellow.

Dr. Strauser-Curtis joins the team at Penn Highlands Orthopedics and Sports Medicine located at 123 Hospital Avenue in DuBois.

Prior to Penn Highlands, Dr. Strauser graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie. She then completed her residency in Family Medicine at Penn Highlands DuBois, and decided to stay to complete a Sports Medicine Fellowship.
