W. Matthew Harris, M.D.

General Surgeon Joins JC Blair Surgical Care Center

J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon is pleased to announce the appointment of general surgeon W. Matthew Harris, M.D., to its medical staff. Dr. Harris joined J.C. Blair's Surgical Care Center team on January 7, 2019. He brings specialized skills in advanced laparoscopic, minimally invasive surgical procedures as well as surgical expertise in upper and lower gastrointestinal, soft tissue, hernia, breast and oncologic procedures, trauma and critical care.

Dr. Harris earned his medical degree at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He completed an internship and residency at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, where he served as chief resident and was awarded the Cooper Humanism in Medicine Award. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Dr. Harris is licensed in the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Vermont, where he most recently practiced. He is certified in endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery, critical care support, and advanced trauma and cardiac life support. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and World Medical Mission/Samaritan’s Purse.

He is an ordained minister and has served in various leadership positions with Harvest International Ministries and the Connect Church of Philadelphia/South Jersey, as well as in frequent missions with organizations both nationally and internationally. He has accepted a post-residency fellowship position for Global Surgery/Medical Mission Training in Nepal with World Medical Mission/Samaritan’s Purse, which will begin at the end of 2019.

Dr. Harris is married and enjoys scuba diving, writing, reading, running, travel, hiking, performing arts, Bible study and teaching, when he is not working.

He joins Physician Assistant Jeremy Tipton in the Surgical Care Center located in Suite 1 of the 820 Bryan Street Building on the hospital campus. Both welcome new patients. To schedule an appointment, call (814) 643-4876.
