J.C. Blair Names Dr. Ronald Long Medical Director of Convenient Care Center
J.C. Blair Health System, Inc. in Huntingdon is pleased to announce the appointment of Ronald Long, M.D. as the new medical director of J.C. Blair’s Urgent Care Center located in the Convenient Care Center in the Giant Plaza on Route 22 in Huntingdon. He joined the staff of the hospital’s urgent care center in January when Dr. Keith Sutton retired. Dr. Sutton will continue to work part time at the center.
Long has been a family practice physician at the Huntingdon Family Care Center, previously the practice of Drs. Hayden, Long and Acker, for many years. He has been a member of the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital medical staff since 1986 where he has served as chief of staff, vice chief of staff, secretary/treasurer, and chairman of the Department of Medicine. He also served as medical director at the State Correctional Institution - Smithfield for several years.
An alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh, he earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his family practice residency at Latrobe Area Hospital. He is certified in family practice by the American Board of Family Practice and is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Practice, Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Huntingdon County Medical Society.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of this position,” said Long. “I know I have big shoes to fill replacing Dr. Sutton who has done a great job. The toughest part of this change was leaving my patients in family practice after 32 years. I was blessed with the greatest patients over those years in Broad Top, Huntingdon and Mount Union. I know with the addition of Dr. Bruce Thomas, they are in good hands and that makes this transition much easier."
J.C. Blair’s urgent care center cares for those with non-emergent medical needs such as fevers, ear infections, colds and flu, sprains and strains, digestive disorders and other medical concerns. Lab and x-ray services are available seven days a week. Family practice physicians, certified nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other nurses staff the center. The center accepts most insurance plans and welcomes orders for lab work and X-rays from all physicians, regardless of hospital or health network affiliation. Cash, checks and credit cards are also accepted for payment of services. The hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekends and most holidays.
