Megan P. Lundgren, MD

Megan Lundgren, MD is a General Surgeon specializing in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Penn Highlands Bariatric and General Surgery in DuBois. Bariatric surgery, commonly known as “weight loss surgery,” is a treatment for obesity and obesity related conditions. Bariatric surgery is an effective treatment for type 2 diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, osteoarthritis, obstructive sleep apnea, and reflux. Bariatric surgery also reduces the risk of death from cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Dr. Lundgren also treats paraesophageal hernia, esophageal motility disorders including achalasia, gastroparesis, upper gastrointestinal neoplasms, gallbladder disease, and ventral and inguinal hernias in a minimally invasive fashion including both laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques.



Dr. Lundgren has been active academically during her career. She has frequently presented at national and international conferences. She has also written several textbook chapters, case reports and reviews within her field of interest. Most recently, these topics have included endoscopic surgery for gastric and pyloric disease, the history of gastroparesis treatment and the per oral pyloromyotomy procedure, advanced endoscopic management of bariatric complications, management of epiphrenic diverticulum found at the time of gastric band removal, and normal physiology after bariatric surgery. In addition, she gained a degree in Healthcare Quality and Safety, with a focus on the opioid epidemic, safe post-operative handoffs to intensive care units, and surgical site infections. Dr. Lundgren also enjoys teaching trainees in the operating room and in a didactic fashion.
