Endoscopy Team at Penn Highlands DuBois

Gastroenterologists, physicians with advanced training in diagnosing and treating digestive diseases, examine patients using endoscopes. An endoscope is a long flexible tube with a camera at the tip that is inserted into the stomach or colon while the patient is under sedation. Endoscopy allows physicians to look at the lining of the upper gastrointestinal tract in order to find the cause of symptoms including persistent heartburn, stomach pain, nausea and vomiting. Colonoscopies are done using a similar instrument to look into the colon and intestines.

Endoscopy procedures also are done in other Penn Highlands Healthcare locations, including operating rooms or the GI Lab at Penn Highlands DuBois West.

Because anesthesia is used during endoscopy, your physician will choose the best location for your procedure based on your medical history. This location is primarily used for scope procedures.

If you are scheduled for a procedure at the Endoscopy Center, it will be noted on your documents from your physician’s office.
