Outpatient infusion services are offered to patients requiring intravenous (IV) medications to treat their conditions. Each of our Penn Highlands locations offer infusion services in private, comfortable rooms featuring state-of-the-art equipment and infusion pumps. Our medical team works together to coordinate care that is personal, effective and convenient.

Ambulatory Infusion Center - Mon Valley

Penn Highlands Mon Valley Ambulatory Infusion Center is located on the second floor of the Charles L. and Rose Sweeney Melenyzer Pavilion.

Infusion is the introduction of a substance (i.e., fluid, drug, electrolyte) directly into a vein or between tissues, often by gravitational force such as an infusion pump.

The Ambulatory Infusion Center at PH Mon Valley is currently offering the following services to adult and geriatric patients:

  • Transfusion of blood products.
  • Therapies involving the medications Remicade and Dobutamine.
  • Antibiotic therapies (first dose for home infusions, injections, or daily to weekly infusions).
  • Immunoglobulin IVIG (infusion of antibodies produced in lymph tissue).
  • ACTH (Cortrosyn) stimulation tests. This is a test conducted to measure the ability of adrenal reserve. ACTH is a hormone produced in the pituitary gland that stimulates the adrenal glands, and the test is helpful in determining if the adrenal and pituitary glands are normal.
  • Steroid infusions post transplantation.
  • IV hydration.

Infusion services are elective, pre-scheduled procedures performed Monday through Friday. Individuals seeking more information on infusion services should talk with their personal physician.

Outpatient Infusion Center - DuBois

The Penn Highlands Infusion Center is located with the Rheumatology Department at Penn Highlands DuBois.

This center provides infusion therapy, which is the administration of medication prescribed when a patient’s condition is so severe that it cannot be treated effectively by oral medications. Typically, infusion therapy means that a drug is administered intravenously. Many rheumatology patients receive their medications this way, and this location is tied specifically to rheumatoid diseases.

Outpatient Infusion Center - Huntingdon

This Outpatient Infusion Center offers a seven-bed infusion center with comfortable reclining chairs or beds for your comfort. Under the direction of a physician and registered nurse, our experienced nurses are focused on providing your care. Our infusion center also offers warm blankets, pillow, television with cable TV and wireless connection for those individuals who wish to bring wireless devices. Beverages and snacks are provided at no cost. Our cafeteria and vending machines are located nearby if you would like something more. Visitors may wait in our comfortable waiting room or at your bedside, if the center is not too busy.

Our Outpatient Infusion Center is centrally located on the ground floor of the hospital. Park in the large parking lot and enter through the Main Entrance. You will be pre-registered so you can come directly to the Center at your scheduled infusion time. All necessary forms will be completed in the Center.

Hours of operation are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Weekends are available for scheduled antibiotic treatments. We make every effort to start your appointment on time. The nurse will assess you before we can prepare your infusion. While we are carefully preparing your infusion, you may relax, read, watch TV or use our internet or enjoy a light snack.

Outpatient Infusion Center - Tyrone

Penn Highlands Tyrone Outpatient Infusion Center is located 187 Hospital Drive, inside Penn Highlands Tyrone.

Services offered:

Blood Transfusions: Patients who need a blood transfusion have access to this service on the PH Tyrone campus, more information about the blood transfusion services offered please call 814-684-6384.

IV Medication Therapy: Patients who need to have medications administered intravenously by a healthcare professional on an outpatient basis can have this service performed at PH Tyrone. Your physician can arrange this service for you by contacting the hospital at 814-329-8524. Appointments are required. IV medication therapy can be scheduled Monday through Friday.
