The goal of this experience is to be able to manage athletic injuries in a high school athletic department. These objectives are accomplished through:

  • Involvement with the organization and implementation of yearly pre-participation exams
  • Assigned high school team physician services, in which the duties involve game coverage, which allows the evaluation and management of sports related injuries in an acute setting.
  • Attendance in weekly training room sessions, which allow for continuity of care. These training rooms are typically on Monday and Friday afternoon.
  • Participation in Saturday-morning injury clinics which provide this population with an easily accessible and inexpensive access to more extensive medical services. Saturday-morning clinics will be split by all of the fellows (primary care sports medicine and orthopedic sports medicine) and will be staffed by attending physicians

Community Athletic Events:

The goal is to plan coverage and provide care for athletes at mass participation events. You will be required to provide medical care for the Dr. Gary Dugan Memorial 5K in the fall.

Pre-Participation Physicals:

The goal is to get a wide range of experience in pre-participation physicals at many different levels including high school, collegiate, and professional. You will understand how to coordinate a mass physical event and also understand the administrative aspects of pre-participation physicals. The dates of these physicals will be given to you as soon as they are scheduled.
